Form A Society Under The BAUS

Do you have an idea for a club, association, society, etc. in the field of business or related interests? Follow the steps below and form your society!

Step 1: Set Up Your Society

  • Initiate an idea

    • Do you have a passion for any business or management field that you want to start a society?

  • Find other students who share the same interests

    • Are there any other students interested in participating in your society?

  • Assign an executive team

    • Mandatory executive members are:

      • President

      • Vice President

      • VP Marketing/Communication

      • VP of Engagement

      • Treasurer

    • Additional roles: Depending on the focus of your society, assign other roles to help run the group successfully. Examples include, but are not limited to:

      • Ambassador/Representative

      • Marketing/Communications Coordinator

      • Academic Coordinator

      • Events Coordinator

    • Note: Over half of your executive team must be UNBF Business Administration or Management Students

Step 2: Review the SubSociety Handbook and the Society Constitution Checklist

Step 3: Create Your Constitution

  • A constitution should outline the purpose, vision statement, goals, and the operation of the society. It will then be reviewed by the VP Internal and their team. They will ensure that your society is qualified to be recognized by the Business Administration Undergraduate Society and the University.

  • Review the “Society Constitution Checklist” for guidance on creating your constitution and the “Vision Statement & Goals” section on the Subsocieties Handbook for a template of vision statement and goals.

Step 4: Submit the application form and the Constitution to the BAUS

  • The application form should provide all necessary information that can help the VP Internal and their team have a good understanding of your society. Fill out the application form and attach a constitution to complete the application process.

Notes:

  • Your Society’s request for creating a new subsociety will be responded to via email address listed under the Executive’s contact information.

  • The VP Internal and their team meet biweekly throughout the academic year, but sometimes more frequently in the fall and busier times throughout the year. Your society will be notified of their ratification status within 72 hours (about 3 days) of a meeting.

  • Your society may be ratified, provisionally ratified, or denied.

    • Ratified: your constitution contains all the sections required as outlined by the constitution outline.

    • Provisionally Ratified: your constitution is mostly complete, with only a few sections missing. Your society must correct the changes to their constitution and re-submit within 3 weeks (21 calendar days) of receiving an email from the VP Internal or a member of their team.  In the meantime, these societies will have access to all the perks of a Ratified Society.

    • Denied: A society is denied if their constitution has major information missing (such as missing entire sections or items of particular importance, such as ensuring an executive cannot sign a cheque made out to themselves), or if the constitution in any way violates the Business Administration Undergraduate Society, University, Provincial and Federal Policies, or laws.

  • If you are provisionally ratified, you will have 3 weeks (21 calendar days) to make the required changes to your constitution or application form (you will receive instructions on how to make corrections and submit a revised constitution and/or application request). If your society has not submitted changes within the allotted time frame, your application will expire, and you will need to re-submit another application for ratification.

  • If you are denied, there is a significant problem with your application, and you will receive instructions on how to make corrections and re-apply. As always, the VP Internal and their team is there to support you throughout the process.
